Baking cakes and 7 peaks!

So last Saturday was Nicole Redd's bridal shower and Stacy and I decided we'd attempt making a cake for it. It was our first time at anything like this! Neither of us had ever made a 3 tier stacked cake and neither of us had ever attempted fondant. And to make things even more difficult we decided on a design where the cake is made to look crooked and whimsical. So, Thursday night, we tied up our aprons (ok, so only I actually wore an apron) and got to work.

The bottom layer was a yellow cake with a strawberry cream cheese filling. The middle layer was a chocolate cake with bavarian cream filling. And the top layer was white cake with raspberry filling. The plan was to cut the cake and serve it for dessert so we made it as yummy as possible. We made the fondant. It was a marshmallow fondant so it tasted a lot better than the store bought kind, but still not great. We put a layer of buttercream under the fondant so you could pick off the fondant if you wanted. And here she is.....
TADA! What do you think? Not too bad for our first attempt right? While we were doing the zebra stripes (yes, those are supposed to be zebra stripes) I think being up close made us question whether or not they actually looked like zebra stripes. But once we were all done and could step back, I think we accomplished what we were going for. It was late when we finished, and you can see our finishing touch was a fondant figurine of Nicole and O'Sirus kissing!

And the best news is that summer has finally decided to grace us with it's presence! Last Friday we made our first trip to 7 peaks and it was a little chillier than I would have liked. Today, however, was great!

Scout LOVED the water! She would just sit there and splash and laugh and scream.

And Maxon of course loved it too. I was really concerned about being there without someone to help (I went with friends, but everyone had their own 2 kids to worry about), but it wasn't too bad. Maxon stays by me pretty good and we mostly just stay in the kiddie pool.
