Labor day Lyman retreat

We've made it tradition to go to the cabin in Colorado for Labor day so last weekend we packed up and made the 6 hour drive down to meet the rest of the fam. Everyone was there except Elder Joshy; 14 adults, 14 kids (Kolton I don't care if you're a senior in highschool, you're still a kid) and 7 dogs! We got there Friday afternoon and got settled into our cozy little room (which may or may not have been home to a couple mice until we got there and claimed it). Deco and Kera were in charge of dinner that night and made Cafe Rio pork burritos with all the fixins', delish! It's always a trick to get the kids to go to bed and then you never know how the nights will go, but they actually went pretty good. Saturday morning we had breakfast then Trent wanted to drive up to Telluride to walk around and see the cute little town so him and I and the kids (along with 1 extra) got in the car and drove about and hr and a half to Telluride. We had lunch then rode the gondola thing up to the top of the mountain.

It was way pretty up there! We walked around for a few minutes then went back down. After walking around town for a little bit we decided it was time to head back to the cabin. Once in the car, the kids all fell asleep and had a little nap (something else that's nearly impossible to come by at the cabin). When we got back we rode horses and just hung out.

Maxon and Scout both loved the horses! Scout just kept saying, yeehaw!

While we're at the cabin the kids love their freedom! They can come and go as they please and just get to play in the dirt and trees all day long. Maxon and Cohen pretty much stuck together the whole time as usual.
Photobucket We usually get rained on at least one of the days there, but this year we were lucky enought to avoid that. I gotta say, it was so great not having to sweep the dirty floor a million times a day from all the mud being tracked in! We brought some crafty things for the kids to do when it rained, and it never did. We always have a projector hooked up to a dish so we can watch the BYU game. We decided to bust out the crafts while we watched the game.

Marilyn and Matt were in charge of dinner that night and we had yummy pulled pork sandwiches. (We eat really well while we're here!)
To celebrate the Cougar victory we had a little firework show that night.

Sunday morning we all headed to the pond for some fishing.

We also took a few rides in the canoe. Luckily there were no accidental tip overs this day! We all learned a valuable lesson the day before, never wear cowboy boots when there's a possibility you may end up having to swim back to shore!

After we were all fished out we went back to the cabin for some lunch and a little more horse riding. That night we had a little game of volleyball in the meadow (sorry no pics). I'm sad to say the boys beat us :( We were in charge of dinner that night, and we did chicken and steak kabobs with corn on the cob and chips and guacamole. I usually way over plan for food, but I guess it was good because we ran out of kabobs, oops. When it got dark we went out to the fire pit to make s'mores.

We did some more fireworks, then visited for a while then hit the hay. Monday morning we had a yummy breakfast of sausage/bacon and egg sandwiches. Then loaded up, cleaned up and drove home. The second we got in the car Maxon started saying his tummy hurt, and about 20 minutes later her puked everywhere. Nothing worse than throw up in a carseat! So we got to drive all the way home with that smell then I got to take the entire seat apart to clean it when we got home. At least we all made it home safely, exhausted, but safe. So much fun! I love being out there at the cabin, I have so many memories from when I was a kid there. We spent lots of time in the summers out there playing and they are some of my favorite memories as a kid. I wish we could make it out there more than once a year, but it's just so far away! Until next year....
